Lighting is one of the best ways to add intrigue and drama to a room. The right lighting is magic- it can help make a room appear larger, or taller. It can highlight, accent, define and contribute to the ambiance of a room. When it comes to selling your home, the right kind of lighting can be very helpful in augmenting its attractiveness and appeal.
You may ask yourself, “what sort of light bulbs should I use?” Firstly, it is always recommended that you buy the highest wattage permitted, then control it, by installing a dimmer. This is always a great feature, as you can adjust the light according to the time of day, or the mood you wish to set. Of course, never insert a bulb that exceeds the maximum wattage that the fitting instructions suggest. Below are some different types of lighting and their associated properties:
Incandescents
- Throws a light warm, golden yellow light.
- Are ideal for creating warmth, coziness and intimacy.
The advantages to these lights are the nice light that they throw, alongside the fact that they are inexpensive and easy to find. Some disadvantages are that they can scorch delicate paper shades. They also have a tendency to blow suddenly, and compared with other lighting solutions, incandescent bulbs tend to be energy hogs.
Halogens
- Throw a whiter, more pure and bright light than the incandescent.
- These lights are ideal for up lighters.
Some advantages to halogen lights, are that they are indeed an energy efficient choice. The design of the bulbs can be slim and compact. The mains-voltage types can be used in conventional fittings without a transformer, but ask an electrician first. The main disadvantage, is that they are expensive to replace.
Fluorescents
Typically associated with the harsh buzzing lights in factories, offices and classrooms, these light have much improved in recent years. They are available in many new varieties that are ideal for:
- Mini strip lights in kitchens
- Desk lamps, display lights and under cabinets
To put it simply, you should look for areas where you can use compact fluorescents for energy savings, without hurting the aesthetic aspects of your home. In places where you still need to have a dimming capability or greater lighting control, you may want to incorporate halogen as a part of your total lighting strategy.
LEDs
These lights are typically associated with Christmas lights. Essentially they are just tiny light bulbs that fit easily into an electrical circuit. But LEDs can also be used in certain interior and exterior lighting solutions.
- LEDs are cool bright lights and best used as an indirect light source. Have them bounce off your warmer colored surfaces for a soothing, homey effect
- LEDs are ideal for: under cup-boards, under valences, around a bathroom vanity, as night lights, for driveway lighting, and in different mood lighting solutions.
In terms of becoming a light magician there are a couple tricks to keep in your bag. To make a room appear taller, use vertical beams from low hanging pendant lights. Making a room appear larger can be achieved with the use of mirrors skillfully placed where they will serve to open up a room. Accent lighting can also help create the illusion of space and set a unique mood in a room. Be sure to add lighting with up lights, recessed lighting, smaller lamps and artwork spot lighting. If you are wanting a large, high room to feel more cozy, consider setting up several table lamps to create smaller, low pools of light.
Thoughtful lighting choices will serve to maximize your homes attributes and minimize its flaws. So, consider the role of lighting as you go about preparing your home for potential buyers, and dare to stage your home in the most attractive light!

Your online business can become a time-sucking black hole, unless you learn to manage your time wisely.
It can begin with something as innocent as a routine check of your email, or a visit to your favorite networking site. Then before you know it, “just one more thing” has turned into 10 more things, it’s 3am, the kids are still awake, and you’re left wondering where all your time went!
Here are some tips that will help you manage your time as an online WAHM.
1. Plan your work day ahead of time. Write down exactly what you will do, and how long you will spend doing it. Then follow your plan. If you’ve allowed yourself 45 minutes to write an article, or work on a blog post, that’s all you give yourself. When your time is up, your work is done. You will find you are much more focused when you know you only have a short time to spend on a specific task.
2. Get a grip on social networking. Online networking is important part of your online business. It can also be one of the biggest time eaters. To help tame this time eating monster, network only at sites that are valuable to you. Valuable sites are the sites that bring you quality traffic, and help you build important relationships. Schedule your social networking as well. Select a certain day or a certain time, and put a time limit on your social networking.
3. Check email only once or twice a day. Your email account can be another big time waster. To help keep it under control, unsubscribe from mailing lists that you don’t read. Allow only a certain amount of time for reading and responding to email, then shut down your email program. Set up an autoresponder that lets people know when they can expect a reply from you.
4. Deal with each email as you read it. Don’t leave it in the queue to be handled another day. If an email requires a response, reply immediately. If you need to take action on an email, add it to your to-do list, then file the email in an appropriate folder. This will help you keep control over your incoming email.
5. Store your passwords in a safe place. Use a free program like Password Corral or RoboForm to keep track of all your passwords for your hosting, your blogs, and anything else you need a password for. This will keep you from wasting time guessing at passwords or using password recovery tools.
6. Use time management tools created by others. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel to discover the best time management practices for you. Look for books that deal with time management, and use the suggestions that make sense for you. Mind Tools (mindtools.com), a website dedicated to time management, has several free tools you can use to manage your time, such as activity log to track your time, steps for creating an action plan, and ideas for scheduling time.

Pop-up tents are usually simple camping tents or even beach tents that can be very easily installed by pushing a few poles through the tent fabric. The tent is usually erected in a matter of a few minutes.
Pop-up tents are available in a wide range of colors, shapes and styles and are very portable indeed. They are also extremely durable and can be packed with utmost ease within a duffel bag and carried along with a lone trekker, a small family with a pet, or even a few wild teeny boppers who prefer having loads of fun on a road trip to nowhere.
The most important factor that should affect and influence the buyer while going in for a pop-up tent should be the waterproofing provided. Most manufacturers proudly claim that their product is 100% waterproof. However, what they tend to forget is that there is a basic difference between waterproof and “water-resistant” material. Most of the tents are either made up of polyurethane or nylon with fiberglass floors. Most are not waterproof, but merely water-resistant. A water-resistant tent would be something that wards off a surprise shower, as well as mildew. However, using such a tent in a perennially wet climate wouldn’t be a very bright idea.
Most pop-up tents come with Velcro attachments, zipped doors and mesh windows for proper ventilation. However, before buying such a tent, the buyer should not get attracted merely by color and design. He should look for space according to the needs of his family or group, as well as consider his budget and the climatic conditions of his camping location, before taking the ultimate plunge.
Most pop-up tents, however, may be used in a variety of climatic conditions, and are indeed a must-have for the compulsive traveler who looks for an opportunity to say “No!” to Monday mornings.
Tents provides detailed information about tents, camping tents, party tents, and more. Tents is affiliated with Inflatable Boats.

Continuing education is an important part of professional fundraising. There always seems to be someone coming up with new ideas and approaches to raising money. You can either keep up or get behind!
An easy way to keep up is to read professional magazines and books. Here are 5 books that every fundraiser must read.
1. Donor-Centered Fundraising by Penelope Burk. This ground-breaking book was a big breath of fresh air to me when I got my hands on it in 2003. Basically, the book summarizes research into why donors give and what they want in return from the nonprofit organizations they support. It completely changed my thinking about donor relations, donor communications, and donor acknowledgement.
2. How to Write Fundraising Materials That Raise More Money by Tom Ahern. Tom has taken some readability research and applied it to nonprofit marketing and fundraising materials in a way that will make you rethink your print pieces. His concise chapters get right to the point and offer you ways to put a fresh spin on things to grab and keep your donors’ interest.
3. Fundraising Mistakes That Bedevil Boards by Kay Sprinkel Grace. This small book is a quick read and is packed with wisdom that can transform any nonprofit Board. Kay identifies the most popular myths told by and to Boards and sets the record straight with easy-to-understand fundraising knowledge.
4. Mega Gifts by Jerold Panas. I highly recommend anything written by Jerold Panas. This book focuses on major gifts, both the donors and the gifts themselves. His stories are compelling and deliver a powerful punch of learning. If you’re thinking of diving into the world of major gifts, definitely read this book first.
5. Hidden Gold by Harvey McKinnon. This book is the definitive work on monthly giving. Harvey shows you how to start and grow a monthly giving program with lots of examples and stories from the field.

Bathrooms are in their own way a sanctuary within our homes. Redecorating your bathroom with current and modern ideas can brighten up a cold and uninviting room. If you have decided that it would be fun to do some bathroom decorating of your own, here are the redecorating ideas that you need.
Ideas for Sinks
Something that people often complain about when it comes to sinks is that the faucet tends to leak. Some people like to just replace the entire sink, but this does not always have to be done, as it might just require a plumber to fix it. However, if you do choose to replace the sink, make sure it fits the décor of the rest of the bathroom.
Some bathrooms can benefit from taking out the old sink and vanity and replacing the sink with a pedestal sink. These can be inexpensive and it will change the appearance of the bathroom dramatically.
A step in the right technology direction brings electronic faucets out of restaurants and airports and into your own private bath. These faucets are motion sensitive, which makes them a great choice for kids who tend to leave that faucet running!
Ideas for Toilets
Another high-tech improvement for the bathroom, consider a self-serve toilet. This modern idea in bathroom decorating will heat the seat for you, and give itself a thorough cleansing and deodorizing when the job is done. You will even receive a warm, drying finish for the highest level of hygiene. No need for flushing either, the toilet will flush itself when you are finished and even close the lid to prepare for the next user. There is no better example of luxury, comfort, and functionality coming together for maximum homeowner benefit.
Ideas for Bathtubs and Showers
Bathing has come a long way since the tin washtubs that were filled with water that was hopefully heated on the wood stove. If you love to soak away your stress in a warm bath, you can now get that tub filled with minimal effort on your part. Another contemporary decorating idea for the bathroom is a tub control that will fill your bath to the exact temperature and level that you desire with a single push of a button. Not only will this unit remember temperatures and levels for three different members of your family, you will also enjoy 10-second refills throughout your soak for maximum comfort and luxury.
The next thing you should think about has to do with size of the shower. Are you remodeling your bathroom in such a way that the shower is separate from the bathtub, is it just a shower, or is it a combination of both? If the shower is separate from the bathtub, for décor purposes, consider placing them at opposite side of the bathroom.
Think About Color
First, you should decide on the color for you bathroom. While a number of experts suggest looking for soft colors, you can go beyond this rule as long as you keep the colors warm and relaxing. Some colors are not suitable for tiles, so make sure to find a color that will provide the room with a calming effect. Common colors used in decorating bathrooms include light blue, mint green, neutrals and other pastels that offer a more soothing experience. Coordinating the color with other items in the bathroom, such as towels and throw rugs, can bring all the colors together.
Just as it pays to keep the walls light, the same bathroom decorating ideas can work for the floor below your feet and the lights above your head., The most efficient way to give a sense of space and to lighten the feel of your bathroom, is to use plenty of light and bright decorations. On the floor, use a light-colored tile to help keep the room bright.
Ideas for Floors
When you’re decorating a bathroom, you need to think about what you’ll be using for materials. This goes in particular for the floors. Different flooring materials, from vinyl to marble, all have drawbacks. Things like marble, for example, look great but are going to be slick when wet. Natural-looking tiles and some ceramics will give your floor an interesting, textured look, but may ultimately be harder to clean.
Tile can be purchased for very little money and with the proper time taken to install the tiles can look very professional. Using tile for decorating a bathroom on a budget is a smart idea. Tile can be purchased for very little money and with the proper time taken to install the tiles can look very expert.
Ideas for Walls
To make the room look extra special, using a special painting technique can be a fun idea. Keeping the pattern small and subtle will keep the look intimate instead of harsh. Paint is fairly inexpensive and can completely redecorate a bathroom. Most paint costs around $15 a gallon and you will only need two to three gallons of paint for most bathrooms.
Staining cupboards can make them look new. Staining can also be used on furniture or other wooden items, and matching all the staining in a room can make a small bathroom seem larger.
With the proper research, you are sure to find the bathroom decorating ideas you need. For more great ideas visit your local home improvement center, scan home decorating magazines, or look on the internet.

Are you considering using banner ads to promote your website online? If you’re hiring a designer to create banner ads for you, it’s important to know what to look for before you pay for your new ads.
1) Start with referrals. If you have friends or colleagues who can offer you referrals, begin there. You can often find a great designer this way.
2) Check the designers portfolio. Look at their banner design samples and see if their style fits what you have in mind.
3) Double-check specifications with a potential designer. Some advertising venues have very specific requirements. If you are having an ad designed for a particular ad campaign, send the information to the designer before you have them start working on your ad or you may incur additional charges if the banner has to be re-created to the specifications.
4) Give the designer as much information to work with as you can. Specify the colors, fonts, photographs, etc that you would like used. Make them aware of the market you’re targeting (children, mothers, musicians, whatever your niche is) and the tone or feeling that you want to convey in the ad. The more info you provide the better job the designer will be able to do of bringing your vision to life.
5) Remember that most graphic designers are graphically oriented, not marketing oriented. Your designer will generally focus on creating a visually stunning ad. This does not necessarily equal an ad that results in a high click-through rate. Don’t be afraid to give your designer direction for the wording and call to action you want to include on your banner.

Are you considering starting your own blog? You may wonder whether you should:
* go with a blogging service that’s hosted on another server where you get a subdomain like yourbusiness.bloggingsite.com
* put your blog on your own domain and hosting space so your blog is at yourbusiness.com or yourbusiness.com/blog
Here are five great reasons to consider using WordPress on your own domain.
5) You can choose your theme.
There are thousands of free themes available for WordPress and you can only use them if you host your own WordPress blog. Just Google “WordPress theme” and you’ll find many websites offering stylish themes.
With many other blogging services you are limited to only the themes they’ve chosen to allow.
4) You can modify your theme.
With some HTML & CSS knowledge, or the help of your designer or virtual assistant, you can modify a theme to do what you need.
3) You can add any plugins you’d like.
One of my favorite things about WordPress is that there are so many fantastic plugins available. You can choose which work best for you and install anything you’d like on your own blog.
2) You’ll be building links to your own domain.
When you host your blog at a service where your blog is just a subdomain, links to “your” blog are building page rank and links for the main domain, which isn’t yours. Instead, host your own blog, and all those links will be pointed to your domain and helping to boost your domain’s page rank and links.
1) It’s free, but has a great support community.
WordPress is free to download and install. But that doesn’t mean you’re without support. Because it’s such as popular blogging platform there are many forums and sites dedicated to it where you can go to find answers to your questions.
